Jack Russell Terrier – An Intelligent Companion
Russell Terriers form a really good companion breed. But their first
nature is of a working breed rather than a companion breed. This is
because of their origins. They were and they still are groomed by some
dedicated farmers to protect their farm from unwanted guests and also
from farm destroyers such as fox and rats. Their boundless energy makes
them suitable to participate in a variety of events. They have hunting
capabilities and instincts.

A Jack Russell can equally be imagined both as a hunting dog and also as
a lovely companion to children, playing with them. Their boundless
energy helps them in both. They are by breed, hunting dogs. One must
always keep that in mind. But the great quality about them is that they
are adept to various environments according to needs. Russell Terriers
are hyper active kind of dogs suitable for both their roles. So if you
just want a dog to roam around you and play with you, then don’t get
Jack Russell, as they do not fit into the role. When bored, they will
create new and fun jobs for themselves, which may not be positive and at
times it may even hurt others. Jack Russell Terriers are excellent
guard dogs. They are very protective dogs and they like to protect their
territory. Russell Terriers have unlimited energy and require a lot of
exercise. We must exercise them daily to keep them active and to control
their hyper energy. We must take them long walks regardless of whether
and climate constraints.
Jack Russell Terriers have hunting instincts in them and one cannot
expect them to be idle. When left idle, they would then vent their
energy by using their natural instincts such as hunting. They are
aggressive and assertive type of dogs. They are fearless kind and they
often think that they are bigger than what they actually are. They even
challenge and fight with bigger dogs.

Russell Terrier dogs are lively by nature. They are not lazy and they
don’t just sit around. They are very shrewd .They are always seen with
an intelligent expression. Naturally they are confident with all these
traits. They often think that they are unformidable creatures. They
often try to teach the owner. The owner must be careful that he must be
the dominant character always, even in games. If given an opportunity,
Russell Terrier may take the dominant role. Proper training must be
given so that they are obedient and disciplined. They are shrewd
creatures and so if trained properly they can learn anything that is
being taught. We must train them to socialize with other animals and
dogs, so that they do not hurt them in the future. They require
attention and care and they require them in such extraordinary amounts.
Russell Terriers are thereby high maintenance dogs. Russell Terrier dogs
are known to get into situations where they stay underground for weeks
to catch a prey. It could be a frightening experience for the untrained
owners who don’t know the tricks to handle the ways of Russell terrier.
Owners should be thorough in their knowledge of earthwork and the
behavior of terrier otherwise the results could be tragic. Russell
Terriers hurt other animals, birds and dogs. They even hurt other dogs
of the same breed. No two Russell Terriers must be left together
unsupervised. If it is really necessary, then proper facilities and
supervision must be provided. Unlike many other dogs, Russell Terrier
always thinks about stuffs and also about future, which make them
special. They form a really good partner for humans as they behave more
like humans than like dogs.
